Mission Statement

The mission of the Greater Des Moines Soap Box Derby Association is to educate and inspire youth through fair and honest competition and mentorship.  With a primary goal to advance and create family values, the Greater Des Moines Soap Box Derby Association provides an environment in which parents, grandparents or other adults are inspired to work hand-in-hand with their children (the racer) to instill basic skills of workmanship, the spirit of competition, and the perseverance to complete a project from start to finish.  The Greater Des Moines Soap Box Derby embraces diversity, facilitates lifelong friendships, teaches the application of math and science concepts and advocates the true spirit of teamwork and sportsmanship

Goals
The Greater Des Moines Soap Box Derby Association future goals are to maintain and keep the Des Moines Ewing Park Soap Box Derby Facility and its program, one of the best in the Midwest Region.  The Des Moines Soap Box Derby Facility remains one of the favorites to all Soap Box Derby enthusiasts.

The Des Moines Soap Box Derby Association is honored to be hosting the 2009 NDR National Championships.  Also, due to the wide exposure of this event, the Des Moines Soap Box Derby Organization will continue to grow enabling the organization to introduce new families into the Sport of Soap Box Derby Racing.

Races are held at the permanent track located in Ewing Park in Southeast Des Moines, Iowa.  Racing begins around 8:30 a.m. and goes until approximately 3:30 p.m.
